The triptych, consisting of three hinged paintings, was widely used in religious art from the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance, and priceless examples are found in cathedrals and churches throughout Europe. The religious triptych has inspired contemporary Limoges porcelain artists in the creation of this exquisite hand painted Nativity. Joseph watches over Mary and Jesus in the center panel, and on the left and right are the three kings, and shepherds. The outer doors, left and right, are painted to depict a richly colored wood grain, ornately carved and finished with gold detail. This is an incredibly beautiful Nativity theme Christmas piece. With doors closed, it measures 2" wide x 2" high x 1/2"deep.
